The Solomonic Dynasty was a ruling dynasty in Ethiopia, claiming descent from the biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. It is one of the world's oldest continuous monarchies, purportedly established around 1270 AD by Emperor Yekuno Amlak. The dynasty is characterized by its cultural and religious significance, as it played a central role in the development and preservation of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. The Solomonic emperors wielded both spiritual and temporal authority, and their legitimacy was closely tied to their lineage. Despite occasional disruptions, such as the Zagwe Dynasty interregnum, the Solomonic Dynasty maintained its prominence until the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1974. The dynasty left a lasting legacy in Ethiopian history, influencing politics, religion, and culture for centuries.
